В 1993 г. Тонгариро стал первым объектом, включенным в Список всемирного наследия в качестве ценного культурного ландшафта. Горный массив, расположенный в центре парка, имеет особое культурное и религиозное значение для народов маори, и символизирует духовные связи аборигенного населения с окружающей средой. На территории парка имеются потухшие и действующие вулканы, представлен широкий спектр экосистем, имеется целый ряд достопримечательных ландшафтов.

This track is amazing. You need to wake up super early and be prepared for a whole day of walking and climbing. Go with short clothes but pack warm clothes because it starts hot but as you climb it get colder and colder, dont forget to check a weather the day before. The climb itself is pretty hard but almost everyone can make it. Its a good idea to pack food, there is a cabin on the way you can stop, rest and eat to reclaim your strength.

Prachtige wandeling, maar je moet wel een beetje getraind zijn. Het is een hele dag en is niet altijd even gemakkelijk. Maar uiteindelijk is het meer dan de moeite waard. Wel op tijd vertrekken want foto’s maken kost tijd.

Wunderschöne Tageswanderung. Wir haben etwas 7 Stunden gebraucht, mit kurzen Pausen. Gutes Schuhwerk ist sehr wichtig, weil es teilweise sehr steil hoch und runter geht. Jedem zu empfehlen, der sich fit genug fühlt!

A beautiful hike with an even more beautiful scenery. From the grassland in the beginning till the top where you can see the mountains and the lakes it was a beautiful serene experience. The path is clear and as expected in perfect condition for new Zealand. Groups can be bigger at the beginning but they spread out a bit towards the end. It's very peaceful to be up there, breathing in some fresh air and enjoying the landscape. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Magical
