Indian Museum, Kolkata

The history of the origin and the growth of the Indian Museum is one of the remarkable events towards the development of heritage and culture of India. Founded in 1814 at the cradle of the Asiatic Society of Bengal (at the present building of the Asiatic Society, 1 Park Street, Kolkata), Indian Museum is the earliest and the largest multipurpose Museum not only in the Indian subcontinent but also in the Asia-Pacific region of the world. With the foundation of Indian Museum in 1814, the Museum movement started rolling in India and through the years from then, got a new fillip and great momentum. Since then, it has so magnificently developed and culminated into the fruitful existence of more than 400 museums in the country. The movement, which was started in 1814, in fact was the beginning of a significant epoch initiating the socio-cultural and scientific achievements of the country. It is otherwise considered as the beginning of the modernity and the end of mediaeval era.

This is the largest museum of India. Situated in Kolkata, West Bengal. It is also referred as Imperial Museum. It was established in 1814 by Asiatic Society of India. It is one of the most attractive heritage of India. The museum is divided in various section as per subjects like Animal, archeological, Botanical, books , stones , coins, clothes etc. A different section is preserved for Egypt where one see the Mummies and the archeology of Egypt. Only this section till now is air conditioned. There are many old sculptures of pre-modern era. This is good to enjoy the historical things.

Huge collection but not well preserved. Specially the geological section the rocks are not well preserved. The zoological section is very good and amazing. Newly made botanical section is also very much well decorated. The historical is also good. The interpretations are quite helpfull. But the most problem of such a museum is there is no extra rebate for students. Students must be provided ticket in lower price than others. But government never gave focus on this matter.

Amazing heritage place located in Esplanade, Kolkata. Best place for school tours, family visits and excursions. Students ,Children and young learners can learn history, science and many more from the thousands of exhibits displayed in a very systematic manner. Photography is restricted but permission can be issued after paying the fee from the ticket office.

Great place for nerds and kids. They even have an Egyptian mummy collection where photography is not allowed. I was famished on my two hours here so some good/great snacking or breakfast options would help. However, Forum Courtyard Mall is nearby, just in case.
