The most unusual thing about this place is that it is not just a bakery or a restaurant. It comprises a coffee shop and restaurants of different size, as well as a conference room and a flower shop together with a few bookstores all located on three floors of Biblioteka. The whole enchilada is called a fashionable nowadays word “space” where, if you wish, you can spend the whole day.
Do not expect anything special, if you peeped into Biblioteka during a promenade along Nevsky Prospekt and parked yourself on the ground floor. Everything is awfully decent here. You will be offered a good selection of sandwiches and desserts but there is not much space though. The tables are placed practically right next to each other with the waiters running around them. As a result, the hurry-scurry atmosphere is in the air which is perfectly normal for a cafe in the heart of the city that is intended for a quick snack or a cup of coffee.
Along with the bill you’ll get a special gift which is a classic literary work from “Lenizdat” publishing group edited in a convenient format of a pocketbook. I think you would agree that it is really nice to get off the cafe with “Anna Karenina” or “Idiot” under your arm.
If you have chosen Biblioteka for lunch or dinner, you are welcome to the first floor. Just don’t forget to leave your outdoor clothing in the cloak room on the ground floor. We suggest you choose the marble staircase to reach the second floor instead of the elevator. You will first of all get a chance to view the pictures of St. Petersburg provided by ROSPHOTO gallery on your way up, and secondly, you’ll get some exercise which is good for you.
On the first floor you will find the hall designed as a pedestrian street of the European town with cozy restaurants, flower beds and small shops. Here are located the floral and china shops, “Subscription edition” bookstore and the children’s room as well.
The second floor is a conceptual place that is designed for tasting the spiritual food. You will find the lecture hall here which hosts lectures and film screenings, “Everyone is free” book store and a bar, sure thing. We recommend you to visit this interesting and fashionable place to have a look at the trendy folks of St. Petersburg and the city life of Nevsky Prospekt throughout large windows of Biblioteka.

Российскую национальную библиотеку очень люблю. Раньше ходил гораздо чаще, сейчас с современным информационными возможностями такая необходимость отпала. Но все равно время от времени возникает мысль, что надо бы восстановить читательский билет. Из истории библиотеки. В 1796-1801 г. архитектор Е.Т. Соколов возвел первый корпус библиотеки на углу Садовой улицы и Невского проспекта. В 1828-1834 г.г. к нему по проекту Росси был пристроен новый корпус, главный фасад, которого обращен на площадь. Его украшают глубокие ниши с полуциркульными завершениями в первом этаже и ионические колонны во втором. Между колоннами-скульптурные фигуры учёных, философов и поэтов древности. Это историк Геродот, поэты Гомер и Вергилий, философ Платон, математик Евклид, ораторы Демосфен и Цицерон, врач Гиппократ, драматург Еврипид (скульптор С.С. Пименов, В.И. Демут-Малиновский). Аттик главного фасада венчает статуя Минервы-богини мудрости.
Самая богатая библиотека нашего города. Здесь можно увидеть первую датированную рукопись- Остромирово Евангелие. Советую посетить рукописный отдел, редкую книгу и овальный зал в русском фонде. Красивый универсальный читальный зал и другие интерьеры которые сохранились с 18 века.
Замечательная библиотека, отличные экскурсоводы, если есть возможность, обязательно сходите на экскурсию.
Очень люблю это место, интерьеры - просто нет слов. Богатейшая библиотека, вежливый персонал. Это отличное место для работы, для учёбы, для того что бы просто изучить любой интересующий материал.
В зале на фото очень сильная акустика, некомфортно работать без наушников(
