Tsvetnoy was the first name of the wooden bridge as it was painted in different colours at the same time. The name Potseluev fixed for this bridge in the late 18th century.

The romantic name of the bridge (Potseluev bridge in English means Kisses bridge) provoked the appearance of numerous urban legends. Among the most interesting are: the bridge was a lovers’ lane for secret lovers, the bridge was a place for farewells on the city outskirts, the bridge was the place of parting with the prisoners who were going to the prison located in New Holland. In fact, in 1788 on a Glinka street corner near the bridge a merchant N.V. Potseluev opened a pub "Potseluy" which gave the name to the nearest bridge.

In 20th century the bridge was enriched by several traditions associated with kisses. It is believed that if you kissed somebody on Potseluev bridge, this person certainly returns. In addition, there is one wedding custom: if you are kissing while driving over the bridge during the wedding your family life will be long and happy.
